Academic Advising at Marian Court College

Welcome students! This is an exciting time as you prepare to reach your higher education goals. The faculty and staff of Marian Court College are here to help you with this transition and support you throughout your program. Two years will go by very quickly so we want you to make the most of your time here!

How advisors can help you

We offer many resources to help you achieve academic and personal success. Academic Advisors are faculty members in your major area that help you with questions about your classes, your major, career planning, and course registration.  As the Academic Counselor, I am also here to support you with academic and personal issues relating to classes, instructors, further educational goals, time management, and study skills.

You can make an appointment with me by e-mailing me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or calling me at 781-309-5270. Or, just drop by! My office is located between the student lounge and the library, so you are welcomed to come in and say hi anytime!

In addition to supporting you with academic and personal matters, support is offered through our writing center, peer tutoring, and specialized workshops for academic and personal success. Please check your e-mail, mailbox, and the student activities board in the student lounge for more information.

What you can do to help yourself

Set goals for yourself! Whether it be academic or more personal, set some goals for yourself at the beginning of each semester that you think are realistic; I am happy to help get you started! You can set goals for how much time you want to spend studying, make a commitment to meeting with me at least once, strive to get an “A” in a class, or even make it a goal to participate at least once in every class each week.

Take advantage of the many resources we offer! We all understand that many of you have other commitments, such as working full- or part-time, or responsibilities to your family and you might not have much time on campus to meet with an advisor. I am happy to work around your schedule whenever possible, so please do not hesitate to ask me to meet before 9am or after 5pm—we will figure it out.

Read correspondence from staff and faculty of the College! Our e-mails or perhaps phone calls, notes in your mailbox, or letters to your home address, are meant to help you succeed by providing you with important reminders and other information. You are responsible for reading and responding to communication from the College.

Attend workshops and events! We offer workshops throughout the year on study skills, time management, career resources, and many other topics. These workshops are only helpful if you attend. Please let us know if there are other workshops that you would find helpful. We also hope to see you at various other student events throughout the year!

I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you all!

All the best,

Megan Penyack, Academic Counselor
