Program Overview – Criminal Justice Administration

The Criminal Justice Administration program provides a fundamental understanding of the nature of crime, criminal law and procedure, and the criminal justice practice. The focus of the program is on broad-based knowledge and basic management skills enabling students to become effective problem-solvers and administrators in the criminal justice community.

In addition to general education outcomes, graduates will:

  1. Understand that the courses taught in the criminal justice program are the cornerstones which allow a student to excel in upper-level courses.
  2. Develop competencies needed to be a successful manager in either the private or public sector inclusive of an understanding of the law, the rights of citizens, and the legal process which protects these rights.
  3. Understand the economic, social, technological, and financial issues which impact and limit the criminal justice/private security practitioner.
  4. Be prepared for assignments in a global environment, particularly in light of the international treatment of criminal cartels and terrorism.
  5. Recognize that the law serves the needs of the people and that individual rights must be protected at all times.
