Program Overview – Paralegal Studies

The Paralegal Studies program is designed for students who plan to continue their education at a four-year institution and who desire a solid foundation in legal skills and practices as well as in-depth study in specialized areas of the law.

In addition to general education outcomes, graduates will:  

  1. Understand and utilize the concepts of critical and analytical thinking as it relates to paralegal research.
  2. Be able to communicate effectively using the legal vocabulary as is needed in the field.
  3. Understand the distinction and diversity of the different areas of the legal profession.
  4. Be familiar with the federal and state court systems.
  5. Be able to use computerized and manual research techniques.
  6. Understand the professional code of ethics applied to the legal community.
