Marian Court College is proud to offer our alumni an opportunity to take non-credit courses through the evening division. Select courses will be offered to alumni at a discounted rate and allow you to brush up on skills or expand your learning horizon.
Are you interested in Creative Writing?
Marian Court College is offering an "Introduction to Creative Writing" non-credit course on Wednesday evenings this summer.
This course offers students the opportunity to learn about and write in a variety of poetic forms, to recognize and refine their own voice, and to discuss their work and the work of traditional and contemporary poets. Class time will be divided between exercises to help students begin and revise their poems, and workshop sessions where students will give and receive feedback to help make their work the best it can be. At the end of the semester, each student will create a chapbook of the poems they have written and revised throughout the semester. The course is designed for students looking for a structured, supportive environment to explore the practice of poetry.
This special opportunity is available to alumni for $400. Classes begin Wednesday, June 27 and run through August 31.
For more information, or to register, contact Linda Lundstrom in the registrar's office: 781-309-5220 or

On Tuesday April 10, Prof. Richie's Comparative Religion Class took a trip to the Jewish Synagogue Shrat Hayam in Swampscott Mass. to meet with "Rabbi B"- the leader of the synagogue. In a beautiful, sun-lit central meeting room, Rabbi B stressed that Judaism was about education instead of faith, keeping the Torah and 10 Commandments, and above all is marked by struggle. The six students in the class asked a variety of questions, and at the end of the meeting the Rabbi invited the students into his office for a video of a Jewish spoken-word poet.
All of the students enjoyed the video, and were surprised by the contemporary nature of the Jewish faith, the relevance of the Rabbi, and the welcoming demeanor of this religious tradition. The positive experience is one of the main objectives of Prof. Richie's pedagogy: to facilitate peaceful discourse among religions relevant to real-life.
