Students, Staff and Faculty are invited to attend a presentation by Jon Shaffer & Elise Garrity of Partners in Health. Partners in Health was founded by Paul Farmer, subject of "Mountains Beyond Mountains" Date: Wednesday, March 28th Time: 11:20-12:20 Location: The Mercy Center Jon and Elise will provide an overview of the work and philosophical underpinning of Partners In Health as well as the growing numbers of opportunities for students and communities to contribute and be a part of the movement for health and social justice.

| Elise Garrity is the Student Outreach Assistant at Partners In Health. Her role includes supporting student fundraising and serving as a resource for all students who want to be more involved with PIH’s work. She started working at PIH’s Boston office as a full-time volunteer following the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Elise majored in English at Swarthmore College, where she worked on a social justice radio program called War News Radio. | Jon Shaffer is the Community Engagement Coordinator for Partners In Health. In this role, he works to build a community organizing strategy that can strengthen the movement for global health equity and move us ever closer to achieving justice in health. Previously, Jon served for two years as the Executive Director of GlobeMed, during which time our national network grew from 17 university-based chapters and 500 students to 46 chapters and more than 1,500 students, all working in partnership with 47 grassroots health organizations on four continents. He graduated from Northwestern in 2009, where he studied biomedical engineering and was active in the GlobeMed chapter. He loves tossing the frisbee, drinking good coffee, and being from Portland, Oregon. |
